Thank you all for your sweet comments and rejoicing with us at the news of a new little Barnes! We are just so thrilled to be expecting this precious gift from the Lord! I had intended to update the blog fairly soon after I posted the picture of Aiden in his "Big Brother" shirt, but morning sickness has really just gotten the best of me, and most things have fallen to the side. I was fully expecting this time around to have less morning sickness. I figured since I am not working with this one (well, at least not outside the home ;)), and not waking up at 4:45am to get to work by 6:30am, that I wouldn't be too sick. Well, I was definitely wrong in my assumptions! I have been much sicker this time around than with Aiden. It started around 5 weeks and has continued to get progressively worse as each week has passed (I am currently almost 10 weeks). The nausea is so much stronger, which in turn means more throwing up. Yuck! It also is much worse at night, which is different than last time.

This weekend, though, I received a nice reprieve and I actually felt somewhat normal for a couple days. Yesterday morning was wonderful. I felt great at church and we even enjoyed a nice lunch out with a group of friends. It actually had me a little concerned, that I suddenly felt better, but this morning everything is back into full swing. As much as I don't enjoy it. I am thankful for feeling sick :) My cravings have been the same this pregnancy, fruit, fruit and more fruit. That is pretty much what I have been living on. Also a little organic yogurt or Kefir. That is all that sounds and tastes good to me! The Greek black olives that I craved with Aiden, though, are a no go this time around :)

Surprising Carl with the pregnancy test! I had taken it earlier that day and decided to surprise him with it that night at dinner. I wrapped it up and told him it was an early birthday present (since this little one is due around his birthday). I totally thought he would know what it was without unwrapping it when I told him that, but he didn't have a clue what it could be. It was so fun to watch him open it and see the smile come across his face!

Sorry to hear about the yucky morning sickness. :-( Mine was also worse with Katie's, and I wasn't working outside the home, either. I think fatigue is a main factor that can make the sickness more intense...I also wouldn't necessarily be so bad in the morning, but more in the afternoon or evening. Maybe because as the day progressed with a toddler, I was more tired? Maybe it's similar for you? Maybe over the weekend you were able to rest more and thus the reprieve? Just a thought. My morning sickness also started earlier than it had with Katie. I will be praying for you as you battle the nausea and endure the throw ups. With my 2nd pregnancy I started lying down on the couch (on my left side) and putting on a DVD for me and Katie to watch. Often, she would come and snuggle with me while we watched. It seemed to help with the morning sickness, and I was still somewhat spending time with her. :-) Hope you can get the rest and breaks you need!
Cute picture of you and Carl!...

Oops...just reread my comment and realised I meant to say my morning sickness was worse with Lauren (meaning the 2nd time around). I must have written too much, because it cut off the last bit of my msg. ha ha I just said that I liked the way you broke the news to him. So fun! :-)

Hang in there, Melitsa!
I was much more tired with this pregnancy's first trimester than I was with my first pregnancy. Definitely having a toddler made all the difference. The second trimester felt great, though! Until I read the end of your blog I was going to suggest eating fresh fruit when you feel sick! I guess you are already doing plenty of that. Ginger also soothes the tummy. I'm praying for you!

Melitsa, my memories of those days are too old to remember, though I do remember havine the "Stomach flu" when I was pregnant with Jen. Plain tea and soda crackers is what I existed on. I'm praying for your comfort. Love ,

Dear Melitsa, I am so sorry to hear that your morning sickness is continuing. I pray it will settle quickly and for your pregnancy to go smoothly. I am going with Malcy and Bronnie to have dinner with my cousin Michael and his wife Nickie tomorrow evening. After dinner they will be driving to Dover where they and their car will be getting on a ferry to Calais, France. Once in France they will continue their journey to their home in Italy. It will be so nice to see them again.

Sorry to hear you have been sick with morning sickness. I do not know how hard it is to have morning sickness because I have not have one yet. Sounds like really make you tired and even throw up. I do not know what helps but there might be something helps you to calm your stomach.
Hope this sickness will pass quickly:) I am so happy for you guys for a new addition to your family!!

Thanks for sharing these tidbits so we can more specifically pray for you. I think DVDs would be a great idea for you to rest some, while still hanging out with Aiden. :)

Isn't it the best feeling surprising your husband with such awesome news - another child!

Quotes & Verses

Say to them, "As I live!" declares the Lord God, "I take no pleasure in the death of the wicked, but rather that the wicked turn from his way and live. Turn back, turn back from your evil ways! Why then will you die, O house of Israel?"

Ezekiel 33:11
