Last week I took Aiden in for his 3 year old check-up. He is doing really well and continues to grow really well too :) He likes our pediatrician, which certainly makes our visits easier, and he even gave the Dr a big hug at the end of the appointment, without my prompting. Very cute! Having his blood pressure taken. The tiny cuff the nurse pulled out was so cute, I had to snap a picture! I think what I really appreciate most about his pediatrician, is that he is full of good and helpful advice (he is a strong believer). As we enter the 3's, Aiden has definitely been showing us a whole new level of independence and strong will, along with his boundless energy. It can be very challenging and exhausting at times to know how to train and parent him. His Dr offered some good suggestions, a couple good books we should read, and then he reminded me that children like Aiden are often our leaders in society. I left feeling encouraged that we keep pressing on in these difficult areas, as well as being just so thankful that even though Aiden can be challenging at times, he also is such a sweet, sweet boy, who is so dear at expressing love and kindness! He also has a great sense of humor and well, he is just darn cute. Not that I am biased or anything :) So here are his latest measurements and percentiles: Weight: 34.5 lbs (77%), Height: 38.5 inches (67%) and this is a new one, BMI: 16.8 (73%). As you can see, he is certainly a solid little boy. I wonder if he will slow down at some point, since Carl and I were both pretty scrawny kids. We'll have to watch and see. Here are 2 cute pictures that I took of Aiden a couple weeks ago. Thanks to Aunt Jenny for his shirt and Grandma for the cool glasses :) Looking cool :) Sweet boy!

We decided once again to forgo a formal birthday party for Aiden, and settled for a quieter family affair. I had no idea how I would be feeling at this point, and the thought of planning and hosting a party in the midst of morning sickness did not seem like much fun. Having Grandma in town for his birthday made it super special for Aiden! It ended up being a really fun day and the birthday boy had such a good time! Opening cards first thing before daddy left for work. Grandma and I took Aiden to Chuck E Cheese for an hour or so on his birthday. Another birthday freebie is if you sign up for their birthday club, they send you a coupon in the mail for 20 free tokens. Aiden LOVES Chuck E Cheese, like he gets all giddy around him, it is quite comical. It was a fun birthday treat for him and nice for Grandma and mommy since we virtually had the place to ourselves! I made a special birthday dinner! Chicken Parmesan, spaghetti, salad and chocolate cake. Complete with party favor whistles. As you can see they were a hit :) Love my BIG boy!! Time is moving so quickly. Grandma took a picture of the 3 (well 4) of us. Aiden loved the whole cake thing. We had to light the candle, sing and let him blow it out 3 times he enjoyed it so much!!! This cake was fabulous. I got the recipe from a friend. It was really rich though and I ended up freezing half of the cake. After cake was a quick bath and then time to open presents from family. What a fun day!

On my birthday we all went out for dinner to Red Robin. I think this is going to be a tradition for us, since we did it last year too. Aiden and I received our free meal coupons in the mail for being a part of their birthday club, so we both were able to eat for free. A free kids meal for him and a burger for me. They have fantastic chicken burgers, protein style, wrapped in lettuce (no bun) that is gluten free, so it's not like you have to choose a big meaty burger. I actually felt pretty good that night and so I was able to enjoy my meal :) Family picture! Aiden had a free sundae with his meal. He really, really enjoyed it! Can you tell? Aiden and Grandma! Love my man!

This year we began doing Resurrection Eggs with Aiden. He really enjoyed doing this each night leading up to Easter. He is only beginning to understand about Jesus and who He is, but it is so exciting to teach him about our Great Savior and the sacrifice that He gave so that we might have forgiveness! Grandma arrived the last couple nights of Passion Week, and Aiden enjoyed going through the Easter story with her too. Easter morning, with a little bunny from Grandma. After church, Carl's sister treated us to lunch out for Easter (even though she was back in Illinois). We went to Carino's, which is an Italian restaurant, and they have a fabulous gluten free menu. Thanks for treating us Aunt Jenny! Aiden LOVES lemons, although you wouldn't think so from the face he is making :) We did a little egg hunt in our backyard later that afternoon.

We went to the same Easter Fair that we went to last year. It is put on by a local church just down the street from us. They do it as an outreach to the community and we certainly enjoy having fun things to go to as a family! Walking to the fair together. In case you haven't noticed, I just love getting pictures of the boys walking together. I think it is just so precious and hard to believe that someday Aiden will be a grown man too! First stop was to do the indoor Easter egg hunt. This year he actually figured out that he was supposed to find and collect eggs :) His absolute favorite, the train ride!! We figured he was old enough to ride on by himself this year, and he did a great job! Playing a little golf. And of course, he had to go in the bounce houses! I tried to get a picture with Aiden while we were waiting in the train line for the 3rd time. As you can see, Aiden was more interested in watching the train than taking the picture! I just love this picture and had to include it! Aiden was playing at one of the little booths and scored a goal. As soon as the ball went in the net, he turned around to daddy and gave him a huge smile as if to say "look what I did daddy, are you proud of me?"

Grandma Barnes left earlier this week after a 10 day visit. She planned her trip to be over Easter, my birthday and Aiden's birthday, so we had a pretty busy, but fun time. Aiden just loved having grandma here and all the extra attention.
I think he especially enjoyed having Grandma doing most of his bedtime reading with him. I think Grandma enjoyed it too :) We miss you Grandma, come back soon! I am way behind in posting and I have lots of pictures on my camera from the past few weeks. So be prepared for an onslaught of posts over the next few days!

Lord, make me to know my end, and what is the measure of my days, that I may know how frail I am. Indeed, You have made my days as handbreadths, and my age is nothing before You; certainly every man at his best state is but a vapor. Surely every man walks about as a shadow; surely they busy themselves in vain; he heaps up riches, and does not know who will gather them. Psalm 39:4-6 |
